Bruce Sterling

The State of Design Fiction in 2018

On 23rd April at 6:30pm Fabrica will host a conference by Bruce Sterling about “speculative design” and how it is currently practiced around the world.
How many objects and services don’t exist, but might exist? Speculative design and fiction design raise many questions about what future will be like and imagine the possible challenges. Designers can create scenarios around these questions, with tangible objects, and fabricate solutions for situations that are still hidden but possible and plausible.
In his conference, Bruce Sterling will illustrate his idea of speculative design with slides of objects and services that might be part of our life in the future.

Bruce Sterling, author, journalist, editor, and critic, is best known for his ten science fiction novels. His most recent book is a collection of Italian fantascienza stories, ” Utopia pirata: i racconti di Bruno Argento” (2016). He has appeared on BBC and MTV, and in Time, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Fortune, Der Spiegel, La Stampa, La Repubblica, and many other venues. He unites his time among the cities of Austin, Turin and Belgrade.
