On invitation by the Italian Paralympic Committee, Oliviero Toscani, with Fabrica, has produced “Naked”, a photography project which illustrates the power of sport and strips disability bare without the use of any adjectives, breaking the tyranny of predominant aesthetic models and asserting that we are all unique in our shape and the way we think.
12 Paralympic champions pose in front of the camera eager to tell their stories and demonstrate that it is time for us to break down all cultural and physical barriers and have the courage to be ourselves.
The result is a gallery of human stories that will be displayed from 5 to 7 November 2019 in the ancient cloister of Palazzo del Bo in Padua, as part of the Festival della Cultura Paralimpica (Paralympic Cultural Festival).
The exhibition features monumental-size triptychs. The athletes, as envisioned by Toscani, are portrayed close up, in their competition wear and completely naked.
The project will visit various Italian cities before going to Japan for the forthcoming summer Paralympics.
