FOR RIO+20 FABRICA LAUNCHES TURN YOUR WORLD AROUND
Jun 21, 2012

On the occasion of Rio+20, the U.N. Conference on Sustainable Development which is taking place in these days in Rio de Janeiro, Fabrica, Benetton Group’s communication research centre, has created Turn Your World Around, a communication project about sustainability.

The idea behind Turn Your World Around is that of an Earth whose future is entirely in our hands, that dominates us yet at the same time is better or worse, is closely tied to our decisions, our way of living and of developing our resources. Like a magic trick, Turn Your World Around uses images to show that today it really is possible to turn around people’s relationship with nature, to assume responsibility for our time on this planet by redirecting the economy towards a cleaner, more viable future.

The project will be released on the main social networks and will be visible for a year on the U.N. website. It is part of The Future We Want, a campaign launched by the United Nations to engage the public and mobilise energy and creativity around the world to envisage a sustainable future.

By joining The Future We Want, Benetton Group continues to focus its attention on social issues, which have always been at the heart of the brand’s advertising campaigns. At the same time, Turn Your World Around is part of Fabrica’s long-established commitment to socially active creativity. Over the years, numerous communication campaigns have been developed in association with non-profit organisations, including the United Nations, Reporters Sans Frontières and the World Health Organization (WHO), in addition to the work of COLORS magazine and the United Colors of Benetton campaigns.

DERAGLIAMENTI (Derailments) IN COMPETITION AT ARCIPELAGO - INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF SHORT FILMS AND NEW IMAGES
The documentary produced by Fabrica makes its debut on the Italian scene

Treviso, June 2012. Fabrica, Benetton Group’s media and communication research centre, announces the participation of its recent production, Deragliamenti, in the official selection at Arcipelago - International Festival of Short Films and New Images, the most popular Italian event dedicated to new formats and new trends of international independent cinema, that will be held in Rome from June 15 to 22, 2012.

Deragliamenti tells of Milo Manara’s experience and joint work with Federico Fellini to transform the screenplay of the film Il Viaggio di Mastorna detto Fernet into a comic strip.

Originally written by Federico Fellini, Il Viaggio di Mastorna detto Fernet has been defined as “the most famous film never made”. Fellini’s decision to abandon the project just before the start of filming is shrouded in mystery. The most likely explanation is that the film in some way brought him face to face with his own death. It tells in fact of the wandering journey of a cellist in the afterlife and the project was described by Fellini himself as “the story of a man who is dead without knowing it”.

At the age of seventy-two Fellini started work with a longstanding friend, one of the world’s best known illustrators, Milo Manara, on a project entitled Il Viaggio, to transform the screenplay of Il Viaggio di Mastorna detto Fernet into a comic strip and in this way exorcise the lack of closure of the film. Ironically Il Viaggio was Fellini’s last work before his death in 1993.
Deragliamenti is produced entirely by Fabrica and directed by Chelsea McMullan, a young Canadian resident in the video area who has already produced experimental videos and documentaries.
The short documentary was nominated for a Genie Award (the Canadian Oscars) for Best Short Documentary. It competed at prestigious international film festivals, such as Toronto, Vancouver, Santa Barbara, It’s All True (Brazil) and London International Documentary Festival while its trailer featured at the first anthological exhibition on Milo Manara, set up at the Complesso Museale Santa Maria della Scala, in Siena, Italy.
