FABRICA PRESENTS 'THE LIQUID BOOK' AT THE GRANVILLE GALLERY IN PARIS
Nov 28, 2012

The Liquid Book by Fabrica’s Portuguese designer Catarina Carreiras participates in L’Amphore, an exhibition organized by the Granville gallery in Paris from December 1st to January 5th. The Liquid Book is a non-conventional container where liquids vanish each time one turns a page. It is a secret capsule inside an ordinary object, a box disguised as a book. Made from waterproof paper, The Liquid Book is a graphic interpretation of an ancient object full of stories left to tell. A homage to all amphoras found in time with unnamed fluids and stories left to tell.

1 December 2012 – 5 January 2013
Opening: 1 December, 14h to 20h

VANISH BY FABRICA AWARDED AT THE VISUAL MUSIC AWARDS 2012
Nov 24, 2012

The award was received yesterday by the two young Fabrica authors during the award ceremony in Frankfurt

Treviso, 24 November. With its audiovisual project, VANISH, Fabrica, Benetton Group’s media and communication research centre, wins the 3rd place at the Visual Music Awards 2012. The prize was received yesterday night by the two young authors of the project, the filmmaker/programmer Daniel Schwarz and the musician Davide Cairo, both residents at Fabrica.

VANISH is a fascinating journey through surreal landscapes, in which music and video have been composed in parallel, influencing each other in their development. Common materials, such as ice, wood, porcelain, metal, and even balsamic vinegar, simultaneously give rise to sounds and imagery. The music draws inspiration from the sounds made by these elements, and through a huge series of algorithms, transforms them into a range of geometric representations that then form the basis for the audio-reactive graphics projections.

Daniel Schwarz (Germany, 1987) studied Information Technology and Media at the Stuttgart Media University in Germany and at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina in Brazil. His project AXIOM.3, an interactive dance performance, won the ARTE Creative Student prize. Since 2011, Daniel has been a resident in the Interaction and Online Experience department in Fabrica, where he has produced PIECE OF PAPER, an experimental short film that won the video contest announced by Amon Tobin and published in the artist's official box set and the Audience Award at the festival Circuito Off. His work ranges from interactive installations to performances and videos, often combining digital with analog, bringing computational and visual processes out of the screen.

Davide Cairo(Italy, 1987) studied Science and Tecnology of Musical Communication at Milan University, and attained the certificate of Mixing & Mastering at the Garnish School of Sound, London. In early 2012 he won the Music Scholarship at Fabrica, where he fulfills his role as a musician and sound designer, with a particular eye to musical experimentation, technology and interdisciplinary work.

VANISH was premiered worldwide on www.vice.com and on www.rollingstoneitalia.it. It was selected as a part of the official competition at important media art festivals, among others, Aesthetica Short Film Festival – York (U.K.) and DOTMOV, a digital film festival organized by online magazine "SHIFT" that is taking place in several cities in Japan and overseas from 2012 to 2013. VANISH is also exhibited at the Media Circus Festival in New York.

The Visual Music Award is one of the most important international competitions with awards for the best new media art, experimental film and music video. VANISH was selected among a total of 111 contributions from Germany, Austria, Canada, England, France, Hungary, Japan, Italy, Netherlands, Poland and USA.
