Meet a Fabricante #17 – Jo Chieh Huang

26 October 2016

Jo Chieh comes from Taiwan and is in our Design aera. She misses her home country a bit, but she since she’s in Italy she can’t imagine life without cappuccino! Read the interview below to learn more about her.

Can you describe in no more than 30 words who you are and what you do?
Ciaoooo, I’m a product/object designer from Taiwan, and I’m passionate in exploring the relations between things/nature/human, and translating them into illustrations or objects.

What do you expect from your time at Fabrica?
I’d like to stretch my strength till I am not afraid to express my ideas and deliver the best of me. In the environment of Fabrica, I’m constantly inspired by diverse points of view: I’d like to absorb all of them and merge them with mine. And also, enjoy my sweet Italian life with my lovely friends from all over the world 🙂

What inspires you most?
I’m always inspired by our life itself, and every encountering (no matter it’s nature or human factor) brings and takes away pieces from us, and with interpretation and expression, it gives me the best material to play around.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
“You’re free to be who you are”, and it’s true: since I arrived, I feel like understanding my position better as a designer, and starting to find my way and being more confident to approach design in my own language.

What do you miss of your home and what do you like of Italy?
I don’t really miss home since my family has just visited me recently (laugh), but yes, I miss somehow the intimacy through language and cultural bonds back home. But after taking the step out of my comfort area, I see a broader world, and I’m really happy to face new discoveries and challenges everyday living in Italy. My favorite thing now in Italy is brioche with cappuccino for breakfast. I’m totally addicted!
