On Friday, 15 February at 6:30 PM, designer and architect Patricia Urquiola will be at Fabrica for a conference open to the public entitled “Pro-getto” (“Pro-ject”).
As she herself affirms, “As a designer I relate to companies and clients through a slow and multi-tiered empathic exchange made up of continuous discovery and experimentation. There is a connection between new technologies and historical archives: the idea of a temporal relationship marked by the rhythm of the design process. Thus memory becomes a dynamic flow that unites past, present and future and interacts with projects of various sizes”./intercepts different project scales”.
During the conference Urquiola will highlight several projects that talk about this process and the range of her experience as a designer of products and interiors as well as an architect.
Patricia Urquiola studied architecture and design at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and Polytechnic University of Milan, where Achille Castiglioni was her thesis adviser/graduating under the tutorship of Achille Castiglioni. She worked with Vico Magistretti and later as head of Lissoni Associati’s design group. Urquiola was awarded the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes (“Gold Medal of Fine Arts”) by the Spanish Government and the “Order of Isabella the Catholic” by His Majesty the King of Spain Juan Carlos I. Some of her products are exhibited in major art and design museums including the MoMA in New York, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the Museum of Design in Munich, the Vitra Design Museum in Basel, London’s Design Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum, the Stedelijk in Amsterdam and Milan’s Triennale. Urquiola is founder of Studio Urquiola based in Milan.
