AN IMMERSION IN PERSIA WITH THE MUSIC OF MOHSEN NAMJOO

Fabrica produces the new CD by the Iranian musician, composer and poet and presents it with a pre-release concert in Milan.

Fabrica, 7th October 2009. Mohsen Namjoo, the young Iranian musician unanimously considered as the leader of Persian rock, will be the star of a concert organized by Fabrica at the Conservatorio di Milano on October 8^th, 2009.

Mohsen Namjoo, one of the world’s best players of setar (Persian lute), will perform with, among others, two young Fabrica musicians and the Iranian actress and musician Golshifteh Farahani to present his new CD entitled “OY”.

“The production of this album”, says Namjoo, “has coincided with the greatest challenge the Iranian people have ever had to face in their history. I have been inspired by melodies and emotions that have enabled me to feel close to human beings all over the world, overcoming all barriers of language and nationality”.

In the words of the Canadian/Iranian film director Babak Payami, head of Fabrica Media, “in Persian tradition, only very few writers have had the mad courage to carve out new trends using the spiritual and artistic instruments of their predecessors. I believe that Mohsen Namjoo is the only one to have been able to do so successfully”.

Born in 1976 in Torbat-e Jam, a small town in Iran, Namjoo is famous for his distinctive musical style, which combines traditional Iranian music with Western sounds, such as jazz, blues and rock, and recaptures, in its words, ideas from ancient Persian poetry reinterpreted in a modern style. With his great interpretative ability, his concerts are truly outstanding performances in which Namjoo sings his lyrics, with a skilful interplay between instruments and voice.
