FABRICA AT THE 2011 MILAN FURNITURE SHOW

Fabrica is involved in numerous events at the 50^thInternational Furniture Show in Milan. In addition to presenting at FuoriSalone the latest for 2011 from the international team of young designers based in Treviso, Fabrica will also be a feature of the Sisley store on Piazza San Babila and in the United Colors of Benetton store on Piazza Duomo and in Corso Vittorio Emanuele.

HERE & (T)HERE and NEXT CABANE

The new Benetton showroom at Corso di Porta Vittoria 16 designed by architect Piero Lissoni will present Here & (T)here, a limited and numbered production of objects designed by Fabrica for Secondome, the fruit of an unusual marriage between two noble and very beautiful materials, blown glass and oak. Hybrid, bold sculptures focusing on form rather than function; a fine balance of fragility and solidity, solids and voids. This collection will be part of a retrospective exhibition covering the years of collaboration between Fabrica and the Secondome gallery in Rome.

Here & (T)here will also be on show at the Salone Satellite (stand C 41) and at La Rinascente on Piazza Duomo where, on Monday 11 April from 8pm, Fabrica’s young designers will present a live design performance (in the Design Supermarket).

Next Cabane is a story in the form of a foldable wooden cabin. Small, temporary spaces where we can set our boundaries, seek shelter or simply live a different life rediscovering the quality and simplicity of things. Personal, intimate havens in harmony with their surroundings; they reflect on subjects like work, pop-up culture, loneliness, games. Alternative settings were one can live in a better way with more awareness, where design is at the service of research into materials, forms and structures.

Also on Corso di Porta Vittoria, Fabrica gives a preview of Objet Préféré, an exhibition to be held from 29 May to 23 October 2011 at the Grand-Hornu Museum in Belgium. The consequence of a workshop involving Fabrica’s designers at the staff at Grand Hornu, Objet Préféré is an unusual collection of 15 pieces of furniture created on the basis of the museum workers’ – engineers, office employees, workers, executives – personal tales about their favourite objects.

A SISLEY DESIGN PROJECT

Eight huge chandeliers created for Sisley by Sam Baron/Fabrica will light up the Sisley store windows on Piazza San Babila during the Milan Design Week.

Frou Frou chandelier-sculptures were inspired by the 2011 spring-summer collection by Sisley, a brand consistently in keeping with modern trends and movements. They embody a perfect blend of fashion and design as they combine the sophistication of fabrics like broderie anglaise, satin and lace with the elegance of ceramic. Sisley is not new to creative synergies. With great versatility, it has embraced diverse collaborative efforts with international designers and artists, and has been a regular feature at the Milan Furniture Show for several years. Ornament, a new range of porcelain tableware, creates the backdrop for this seductive profusion of draping, pleats and fluid volumes. Ornament was designed by Baron for Vista Alegre and was inspired by the stucco work and circular medallions which decorate the ceilings of Portuguese mansions. The Frou Frou and Ornamentranges are on sale exclusively in the Sisley store during the Furniture Fair.

Whales, hens, rabbits and pigs star in Fantastico Domestico,a new collection of white metal fruit baskets designed by Valentina Carretta/Fabrica for Seletti. An imaginary domestic zoo for a table setting that hovers between reality and fantasy.

Fabrica will also be seen in the windows of the United Colors of Benetton stores in Corso Vittorio Emanuele and on Piazza Duomo which will present, respectively, Le Sac, a shopping bag range springing from the imaginative flair of an Australian graphic designer at Fabrica, Elliott Burford (Le Sac are on sale in selected stores in Italy and worldwide); and Dinnerware Collection, a colourful range for the dining table and kitchen which forms new lines of contact with the world of Benetton apparel. The collection is made by DESART under BENCOM licence and will be available in leading tableware stores across Italy.
