FABRICA IS A GUEST AT THE 8 ½ ITALIAN FILM FESTIVAL IN LISBON
The centre presents videos at Cinema Medeia Nimas on 20 April
Treviso, April 2011. Fabrica, Benetton Group's communication research centre, has been invited to present a selection of its video work at 8 ½ - Festa do Cinema Italiano, a major festival in Portugal devoted to Italian films and culture. The festival is held in Lisbon and other Portuguese cities, 14 April – 5 May 2011.
8 ½ - Festa do Cinema Italiano has set aside a whole day for Fabrica. Through Sam Baron, head of Fabrica's Design department, the research centre presents a selection of its video, design and photography projects, the fruit of the creativity of young artists and video-makers from different countries around the world.
The retrospective presents a selection of the different types of video production: the documentaries I Am Jesus, the tale of the return of three messiahs in the modern world; Rwanda Again, Moment of Silence, commissioned by the U.N., with the contribution of Luis Figo, ambassador for Stop TB Partnership; Future Spills, a video about sustainability which cleverly mixes real images with sensitive animations; Penguins, a music video to promote the CD Careless produced by grant holders in Fabrica's music department; Drummpaint, a creative performance by a young percussionist at Fabrica; Unique Trades, a collection of short documentaries about trades that are disappearing; and Cease Fear, a promo made for Colors magazine. stories of survival and remembrance as a means of recovering from the wounds inflicted by the genocide; Factory of Martyrs, a look at Iran today through the government-sponsored wall-paintings which portray the legends and values of an evolutionary Islamic society; the public awareness commercial
For the festival, Fabrica has chosen the works of two artists connected with the Fabrica World, the Portuguese designer and illustrator Mariana Fernandes and Italian photographer Piero Martinello who, respectively, show: Ac.tion, a collection of illustrations that reinterpret the different meanings of the word action, and Fabrica Portraits, a selection of portraits of some of Fabrica's young grant-holders.
