After the world premiere of Deragliamenti at the Toronto International Film Festival
FABRICA IN OFFICIAL COMPETITION AT THE VANCOUVER INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL WITH TWO SHORT DOCUMENTARIES, DERAGLIAMENTI AND NOT TO BE
Treviso, September 2011. Fabrica, the creative lab of the Benetton Group, announces the participation of its recent productions, Deragliamenti and Not to Be, in the official selection at the Vancouver International Film Festival, as part of the Canadian Images programme, one of the best-attended series of this upcoming festival, that takes place at the Vancouver International Film Centre, from September 29th to October 14th, 2011.
Deragliamenti is a short meditative documentary that tells of Milo Manara’s experience and joint work with Federico Fellini to transform the screenplay of the film Il Viaggio di Mastorna detto Fernet into a comic strip.
Originally written by Federico Fellini, Il Viaggio di Mastorna detto Fernet has been defined as “the most famous film never made”. Mystery surrounds Fellini’s decision to abandon the project immediately before production. At the age of seventy-two Fellini started work with a longstanding friend, one of the world’s best known illustrators, Milo Manara, on a project entitled Il Viaggio, and together they started to draw Fellini’s vision of the afterlife as a comic.
Not to Be is a short documentary investigating the concept of life, death and personal identity. Through the interpretation of a scene from Shakespeare’s Hamlet a group of very young would-be actors are faced with the theme of death.
Both documentaries are directed by the Fabrica video resident Chelsea McMullan and entirely produced by Fabrica.
Chelsea was born in Langley, Canada, in 1984 and she graduated with a BFAhons and MFA in film production from York University in Toronto. In early 2011, Chelsea was selected for a one-year residence at Fabrica, in the Video area. Chelsea’s directing credits include the short film Plume (Toronto International Film Festival, 2006), the short documentary In a Perfect World (Hot Docs International Documentary Film Festival, 2006) and the short documentary Deadman (Toronto International Film Festival, 2009).
