THE PERSIAN ROCKER MOHSEN NAMJOO IN VENICE
The concert will have the Venice International Film Festival as its backdrop.
Fabrica, September 2009. Mohsen Namjoo, the young Iranian musician, unanimously considered as the leader of Persian rock, will be the star of a concert organised by Fabrica and Cinecittà Luce in the setting of the Venice International Film Festival.
Well known as one of the worlds’ best players of the setar (the Persian lute), Mohsen Namjoo will give a world preview performance of some of the tracks on his new CD “OY”, which has been produced by Fabrica and is soon to be released.
Born in 1976 in Torbat-e Jam, a small town in Iran, Namjoo is famous for his distinctive musical style, which combines traditional Iranian music with Western sounds, such as jazz, blues and rock, and recaptures, in its words, ideas from ancient Persian poetry reinterpreted in a modern style. With his great interpretative ability, his concerts are truly outstanding performances in which Namjoo sings his lyrics, with a skilful interplay between instruments and voice.
This concert has been made possible as a result of cooperation between Fabrica and Cinecittà Luce.Fabrica is Benetton’s creative workshop, where young artists from all over the world are invited to develop, under expert guidance, projects in the music, video, interactive, design, photography, visual communication and publishing sectors.Cinecittà Luce is the public company that works as the operational arm of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, whose mission is to support the Italian film industry.
The concert will take place during the “Cinema and Human Rights” day, promoted by Cinecittà Luce, Venice Biennale and the association Article 21, to draw attention to just how many people throughout the world are fighting to obtain the most basic civil and human rights.
