Design that makes sense:
User-centred, evidence-based, and results-oriented
While design education has been generally based on the emulation of design projects (logos, brochures, posters, and now, branding), there are issues that cut across any project and represent skills and attitudes on which our attention should concentrate. These are: 1) the methods that help us get to know the users of our intended product; 2) the use of relevant scientific information about perception, cognition and motivation; and 3) the commitment to evaluate the effectiveness of every design project.
The lecture will focus on these three areas and will be illustrated by design examples and case studies. It will also discuss the skills necessary to identify possibilities for meaningful design interventions in society, presenting design as a socially and professionally responsive and accountable activity.
