Devil comes to Koko in official competition.
Fabrica announces the participation of Devil comes to Koko at the 26th edition of the African, Asian and Latin American Film Festival, section Extr’A, taking place in Milan from April 4 to 10.
The documentary directed by Alfie Nze, screenplayed by Simona Cella in collaboration with Alessandro Leone, Chiara Ligi and Angelo Ruta, is produced by the very same Alfie Nze with Fabrica.
Devil comes to Koko is a short film that weaves together two seemingly unrelated stories: the bloody British invasion of Benin City in 1897 and the scandal of the 1987 toxic waste dump in nearby Koko. The narrative unfolds through the eyes and words of Alfie Nze, a Nigerian theatre director who lives and works in Italy.
The movie, filmed in Italy and Nigeria, follows parallel yet overlapping narratives: the investigation of two brutal moments in Nigerian history, and Alfie’s private creative journey as he stages his own play about the tragedies in a bid to escape his obsession.
Devil comes to Koko tells true stories that intersect and merge with the filmmaker’s imagination.
