Meriç is a Turkish designer whose artworks are mostly are influenced by the relationships between people – life – things – space and time. During the webinar the artist will present works from different periods of her own studio practice, talk about her creative processes and share professional experiences in the last 20 years.
The Turkish artist will be going deeper into the ideas behind her work. She observes the scenes from daily life, daily things, routines, habits, behaviours, feelings, expectations, paradoxes and she playfully experiments with things and processes searching for potentials, spirits and meanings. Ranging from simple matches to public furniture, mass produced pieces to one piece installations and exhibitions, solo work and collaborations, Meriç’s projects are between mediums which may or may not result in an object. While some of these are conceptual explorations and their reflections, some are produced or designed and optimized for mass production, they are proposals for how we might look differently at the bits and pieces we find around us.
For Meriç every project is an episode within itself and some are longer stories. She believes when the objects speak for themselves, communication starts and then a strong bond is formed especially when they are felt and understood by one another. She plays with ideas for discussing, criticizing and making statements but depending on the briefs, user profiles, lifestyles, production and medium potentials, some projects are more practical and sensitive to needs.
