[EN]Meli (she/her) is an artist and researcher based in London (UK). Working across diverse media, her work explores topics around identity and its politics. It is an attempt to express an experience, to capture a question, to present a quest.

She holds an MA in Visual Communication from the Royal College of Arts (UK). She has been published in Dateagle (UK) and Positioned Realities (Germany) and exhibited at the Haus der Statistik (Berlin), Today Art Museum (China), Somerset House (UK), Lift Off Festival (UK), Sweden Film Awards (Sweden), Upcoming Film Makers (Switzerland).

[EN]BADFEEDING is a research on the limitations of artificial intelligence. At a time where algorithms pervade our social, cultural, political and legal systems, the work questions the trust and power given to these technologies by asking: What happens when you subvert the feed?

»Regardless what you ask them, they will give you an answer. We don’t have sensible AI.« — Rita Singh

Presented as a series of experiments, the research reflects on the conflicting results given by algorithms when provided with unexpected data. The machines, with their automated analytics, don’t make the distinction while performing their task and still provide findings from their analysis.

Using open source AI analytic tool, the multimedia installation is divided into three parts; sound, image and text. Hearing ringtones as birds, rediscovering ordinary objects through a distorted lens or even by reading buildings, BadFeeding is about the over-reliance on AI in the age of automation.

LISTENING TO MACHINE LISTENING is an audio documentary exploring the science of profiling humans from their voices using a technology which seeks to deduce the speaker’s persona through AI analysis of the voice signal. This technology is currently used by forensic labs, security and law enforcement agencies.

Created as a collage of online recordings, interview and generated voices, the work reflects upon notions of acoustic justice — exploring the politics and ethical implications of automated listening. (21min24sec)

[IT]BADFEEDING è una ricerca sui limiti dell’intelligenza artificiale.

Ascoltando suonerie come uccelli, riscoprendo oggetti ordinari attraverso una lente distorta o persino leggendo edifici, BadFeeding parla dell'eccessiva dipendenza dall'intelligenza artificiale nell'era dell'automazione.
