Emanuele Coccia at Fabrica

The celebrated philosopher officially opens the new session of the artistic residency program

On 23 September at 7pm CEST Emanuele Coccia, one of the most eclectic and esteemed intellectuals of his generation, will be at Fabrica for a lecture that officialy opens the new session of the artistic residency program.

Emanuele Coccia is an Italian philosopher known worldwide for his thinking on the metaphysics of plants and their centrality in the theory of knowledge. He has been exploring the concept of metamorphosis in fields like zoology, philosophy, biology, linguistics, botany and literature. The result is a vision in which the human being is the expression of a larger and more interconnected form of life, in a new relationship between humanity and nature.

Among his publications, “Metamorphosys” (Einaudi, 2022), “Philosophy of the house” (Einaudi, 2021),”The life of plants. A metaphysics of mixture (Il Mulino, 2018).
Since 2011 he has been teaching at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS, Paris). He is also a columnist for “Libération” and collaborates with “Le Monde” and “Repubblica”.

The conference (in English) is open to the public and will take place at the Fabrica auditorium. Free admission.

The theme of the September 2022-February 2023 session of the Fabrica residency program is “Otherworlding” or how today’s creators tackle global issues through artistic practices that are almost prophetic. A process of interconnected phenomena which, thanks to technology, generates alternative worlds by eliminating the boundaries between subject and environment. A celebration of the human capacity to project itself into possible and impossible futures.

The program, curated by the Spanish artist and director Carlos Casas, consists of a series of workshops and lectures by mentors and international experts who accompany Fabrica’s young creatives in a research path which will culminate with a live exhibition in February 2023. Some of the events are open to the public.

For the current semester 18 young creatives from 13 countries have been selected: Ukraine, Iran, Japan, China, Indonesia, Brazil, USA, UK, Italy, The Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Switzerland.
