Zavarese, Huber and Saarikko

On Wednesday 19 June at 7pm Batman Zavarese, brazilian visual artist and the artist duo Sasha Huber (Switzerland-Haiti) and Petri Saarikko (Finland) will be at Fabrica for an event open to the public in which they will present their work and latest projects. Batman, Sasha & Petri began their professional career at Fabrica in 1998 and 2000 respectively.

Batman Zavareze, 51 years old, is a designer, festival curator and visual artist. He has brought his creative vision to life as the artistic director for large-scale musical shows (Marisa Monte, Tribalistas, Roberto Carlos, Planet Hemp), art exhibitions and live events (Rio 2016 Olympics, inauguration of President Lula da Silva, Opening of Cop 28 in Dubai, Nabucco Opera in Geneva and total Occupation of Times Square in NY in a large Call To Action: Save the Amazon). Notably, he created and directed Immersive Museums in Brazil, including the Museum of Sound and Image of Ceará.
As the visionary director and curator of the Multiplicidade Digital Art Festival since its inception in 2005, Batman has fostered a vital platform for exploring the intersection of diverse artistic languages and new technological experiences. This dedication has ensured the uninterrupted operation of the festival for nearly two decades, solidifying its position as a cornerstone of Brazilian cultural exploration.

Sasha Huber from Switzerland with Haitian roots and Petri Saarikko from Finland are a visual artist duo living and working in Helsinki, Finland. They met at Fabrica in 2000. Sasha and Petri have been working and exhibiting both collaboratively and individually in museums and independent art spaces and have attended numerous residencies around the world. From 2011-17 they initiated an independent art space Kallio Kunsthalle based in Helsinki, directed by Saarikko with over 40 curated exhibitions from artists around the world. In 2011 they started the Remedies project during their residency at Botkyrka Konsthall in Sweden and realized the second edition with the local community during the Te Whare Hera international artist residency in Wellington, New Zealand in 2015. The project explores methods of self-help and medical healing in different geographical and cultural contexts. Remedies have taken different forms of expression such as live performances, videos, installations and publications. They continued the work with further versions at the Mildura Biennale in Australia in 2015, the Le Centre D’Art in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 2016, the 1st Riga Biennale in 2018, at the 2nd Helsinki Biennale in 2023. In 2024 they are working on a new project for The Showroom in London exploring rest as a radical act.

Batman Zavarese, Sasha Huber and Petri Saarikko are three of the mentors of the “Kinship” residency program curated by Carlos Casas.
