Closed Set
Closed Set consists of three installations placed around different Fabrica locations.
The first is a video housed in a wooden structure next to one of three deer sculptures realized for this project. A screen shows clips from the popular gay pornography series Czech Hunter. It is a film database in which clips are randomly pulled out to create a generative storyline/poem, with the deer standing still and observing it.
The second installation shows a large speaker monitor placed in a wooden housing. Next to the speaker is a deer lying on the ground and listening. The generated sound is a soundtrack from gay pornographic films directed by Joe Gage, Fred Halsted, Steve Scott, Francis Ellie, and Robert Prion.
Finally, the last piece of this compound artwork represents two young male deer embracing each other next to three small-scale portraits installed on the wall. The paintings show three young actors from the popular gay porn studio Triga Films, all of whom remain unnamed.
Artist’s statement
A deer at rest is a being in tension, ready to snap at any moment, a strong, muscular body that lets itself go for a while. Encounters with these large wild animals are delicate and fragile, but here they appear motionless, almost frozen. Similarly, these excerpts showing different facets of gay pornography are decontextualized, playful moments taken from explicit content. In both cases, they are not about our reality, but a reality that allows me to share new perspectives, to be observed more closely.
Bio
Born in 2000 in Ireland, Aindriú Ó’Deasún is a Dublin-based visual artist. Primarily working with sculpture, drawing and painting, he has exhibited works at Pallas Projects/Studios Dublin, the Royal Academy Antwerp, the Creative Factory in Turnhout and recently at NCAD Dublin, where he received the Digital Society Award 2023. After graduating with honors in Fine Art Media and Visual Cultures, Aindriú continued his practice with the support of the Irish Arts Council.
