Jenna Sutela / Ave bossa, bow ole

On Monday, 4 December at 3pm CET Fabrica presents an online lecture by the artist Jenna Sutela titled Ave bossa, bow ole.

In this talk Sutela will share some of her art on biology and computation. A lot of Sutela’s work simultaneously zooms out to space and into the gut, looking for connections between these two realms. Accordingly, the title of the presentation plays with the words ‘as above, so below’. At the core of Sutela’s practice, there is a renunciation of anthropocentric hierarchies and an orientation towards decentralized forms of intelligence and organization.

Jenna Sutela is a Finnish artist based in Berlin. She works with biological and computational systems, including the human microbiome and artificial neural networks to create sculptures, images and music.

Sutela’s work has been presented at museums and art contexts internationally, including Swiss Institute, New York (2023), Haus der Kunst, Munich (2022); Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Rivoli-Turin (2022); Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki (2022); Shanghai Biennale (2021); Liverpool Biennial (2021); Kunsthall Trondheim (2020); Centre d’Art Contemporain Genéve (2020); Serpentine Galleries, London (2019); and Moderna Museet, Stockholm (2019). She was a Visiting Artist at the MIT Center for Art, Science & Technology (CAST) in 2019-21.

Jenna Sutela‘s lecture is part of Fabrica’s “Co-ecologies” residency program curated by Carlos Casas.
