Rie Nakajima / Sculpture

On Thursday, April 13 at 7:00pm CEST, Fabrica presents a concert-performance of artist and sculptress Rie Nakajima.

Born in Japan and currently living in London, Rie Nakajima creates installations and sound performances by responding to physical characters of spaces where they are hosted. Using a combination of motorised devices and found objects, obtains acoustic resonances projected into the surrounding environment.

The Fabrica spaces, designed by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando, become the stage that hosts Rie Nakajima’s performance along with some sound installations created by the young creatives of the centre during the workshop with the artist.

Fusing sculpture and sound, Rie Nakajima’s artistic practice is open to chance and the influence of others.

She has exhibited and performed worldwide. Her frequent collaborators includes David Cunningham, Keiko Yamamoto, Pierre Berthet, David Toop, Akira Sakata among others.

Her first major solo exhibition was held at IKON Gallery in Birmingham in 2018. She has also collaborated with Museo Vostell Malpartida (Cáceres), Serralves Museum (Porto), ShugoArts (Tokyo), Hara Museum (Tokyo), Cafe OTO (London) and many others.

Rie Nakajima’s concert-performance is part of the “Archaism” program, curated by Carlos Casas.
