TELARE LA MATERIA AT THE GREEN&BLUE 2024 FESTIVAL

Monday 3rd Jun 2024 — Wednesday 5th Jun 2024

From 3 to 5 June 2024, at the Green&Blue Festival at the IBM Studios in Milan, United Colors of Benetton presents “Telare la Materia”, the sustainable design project conceived by young designer Davide Balda during his residency at Fabrica.

The third edition of Italy’s most important sustainability festival is titled “L’impresa della sostenibilità” (“The business of sustainability”). The theme is perfectly in-line with the objective of “Telare la Materia”: proposing a series of applications to address the impact of the textile industry on the environment and encouraging the disposal of clothing items at the location where they are produced.

Starting from unsold garments from the Green B line, Balda will show us how to reduce garments into fabrics, and fabrics into textile fibers, both synthetic and organic, which can then be reused in different applications. For the occasion, the materials obtained from this regeneration process will also be used in the festival stage setup, where scientists, activists, institutions and companies committed to sustainability will take turns presenting.

If you want to experience the process and its applications first-hand, sign up and participate in the workshop led by Davide Balda during the festival. We look forward to seeing you at Giardino de Castillia at BAM – Biblioteca degli Alberi Milano.

Davide Balda

Originally from Genoa, Davide Balda (1998) is a multidisciplinary designer interested in researching new materials and sustainable production processes. Davide identifies himself as an archaeodesigner, someone who researches and studies techno-fossils, natural and artificial residues produced by human activities, which is useful for investigating the past, rereading history and creating materials or artefacts. He is currently participating in an artistic residency at Fabrica, the Benetton Group’s research center.
