10.000 – 30 is a creative research installation developed around the quotidian life of the inhabitants of Tierra del Fuego during the 19th Century (islands located in the south of Chile and Argentina), whilst acknowledging the complex history that happened in that territory, from a Chilean-Argentinian perspective. Showcasing Alessandra’s research journey, which abruptly turned from everyday common practices and relationships with land, to a project about settler colonialism and the genocide that was perpetuated on these islands.

The two-part installation first focuses on context and the main narratives from which a series of ceramic works were born: stories about survival, displacement, nomadism, coexistence with earth, violence, and grief. Then one is invited to cross over and delve into an archaeological site that illustrates a mirror story: a manifesto of what could have been, a reimagination of what the ancient pieces are, about what culture was and what history will be.

This is a personal project reflecting Alessandra’s complex and evolving relationship to this topic as someone who gave up learning from the twisted and misleading historical texts and decided to reimagine a painful yet unknown past for many.

“They inhabited this land for more than 10.000 years but were displaced in less than 30.’’

From San Luis, Argentina, Alessandra (1999) is a ceramicist by formation and set designer by curiosity, stemming from her Argentinian and Chilean identity. She develops a practice through ceramics and environments inspired by pre-Columbian art. Her work involves reimagining the Andes and South America’s natural elements, using research and technology as a tool to develop vernacular and traditional narratives. Her practice is more than earth and fire, seeking to engage and transport the audience to other realities through virtual reality, 3D modeling, and motion.
