Movement Ecology by Allison Costa

Movement Ecology by Allison Costa

Movement Ecology is a creative research project exploring the nexus of perceptual and embodied experiences, environmental change, and the interconnectedness of movement on various scales. The project features a video installation with black and white texture imagery, obscuring context and materiality, and solo dance performances by Allison Costa, unveiling hidden nuances within the textures.

Grounded in transdisciplinary dance, Movement Ecology integrates texture footage from Italy’s Veneto region. The accompanying book outlines the methodology of integrating texture videos as choreographic input. The project’s interactive website and locally sourced textures foster self-reflection on perception.

Movement Ecology, harmonizing with Fabrica Research Center’s A/W 23 theme of co-ecologies, invites the viewers to reflect on perception and engage with the innate motions within the interconnected realities of dance, technology, and environmental exploration.
